7 reasons why you can't sleep well during pregnancy

One of the most crucial problems that eight pregnant women out of every ten experience is lack of proper sleep caused by mainly hormonal changes and other physical issues plus mental anxiety, excitement and frequent visit to the bathroom. While proper sleep during pregnancy is not easy, finding the causes and following some remedies may help you get a sound sleep every night. Let’s know why your peaceful sleep is interrupted frequently, and what you can do.

Leg cramps:

Excessive weight and interrupted blood circulation during pregnancy are responsible for this which is characterized by too much pain on legs. It will hardly let you sleep well.

Remedy:

Study suggests that difference in proportion of calcium and magnesium is primarily responsible for this problem. Include foods that are rich in these two ingredients in your meal plan. Drinking water and taking exercise or walking may also help. Always see your doctor if you use any special diet chart or supplement.

Frequent urination:

An increasing amount of progesterone and the kidney being capable of filtering only 50% blood can cause this. In addition, the uterus that gets enlarged and congested with the urinary tract causing the pregnant woman to feel like going to toilet frequently.

Remedy:

You can drink sufficient water and take liquid food. However, stop drinking water two hours before you go to sleep.

Inflammation in chest:

Due to pregnancy hormone, lower esophagel sphincter relaxes and causes the stomach acid to emit through the gullet. Increase in the size of uterus may also cause pressure on the stomach, and the acid travels upward, which ultimately cause chest inflammation.

Remedy:

Avoid fried and spicy foods. While sleeping, try to lay your head a little higher than the rest of the body. Also, do not go to sleep right after taking meal.

Frequent feeling of appetite:

During pregnancy, you are eating for the two and the growth of the baby inside is involved, which is why it is common that you feel much hungrier than before even after taking meal only a while ago.

Remedy:

Whatever you eat all day long, at night, try to keep with you light but healthful foods like fresh fruits, cheese, boiled egg, snacks and toast with butter. If you feel hungry, eat any of them and go to sleep.

Feeling nauseated:

During pregnancy, several changes like hormonal alteration, changes in different physical parts, acute smelling capability make pregnant women feel nauseated, which haunts them more and more while they are going to sleep at night.

Remedy:

Remove fatty foods from your dinner. Foods like fried rice, spicy foods or anything that interrupts your digestion are also avoidable. You can chew some ginger while going to sleep as many women claim it gives them relief from nausea and such feeling. Also, you can eat healthful snacks when feeling nauseated.

Feeling no comforts after lying:

Several causes like physical change, weight gain, excitement for the baby and hormonal changes may cause women to feel no comfort on bed.

Remedy:

You can add to the number of pillows you use usually. You may one more pillow to the ones under your head. Otherwise, put one or two more on your both sides. There is no hard and fast recommendation that you have to always sleep on bed. Fall to anywhere you find comfort with, no matter if it is on a sofa or a mattress.

Too much anxiety:

Curiosity to know the unknown about pregnancy and delivery and about the baby may make the mother-to-be anxious, and such conditions may become a regular state of a woman’s mind. Anxiety causes interruption to sleep.

Remedy:

Try to make yourself understand that your baby will remain safe and sound if you are in a good shape and fit. Do not let your curiosity cloud your mind. Ask anybody you think is knowledgeable. To keep your baby sound, you need to eat and sleep well.

A few tips to get sound sleep during pregnancy:

·        Avoid caffeine.

·        Avoid sugar at night.

·        Take a little exercise each day. Take a walk instead of sitting idle all day long.

·        Bathe in lukewarm water that can relax your body and help you sleep well.

·        Keep the windows open as fresh air is conducive to health as well as sleep.

·        Sit for meditation on a routine basis. Also, keep your religious prayer continued.                                                                                           

·        Try to have some good time with your partner. If the mind is sound, sleep will follow quickly.
