While you're pregnant, heed to this gynecologist follow-up routin
If you have a determination that you want to conceive, you
need a good gynecologist who will provide intensive care from conceiving to the
delivery. Thus, you and your baby can be safe during the delivery and days to
come.
Start of
routine checkup with a gynecologist:
Talking advice from a gynecologist on a routine basis is a
primary responsibility of a couple before conceiving. Through such discussions,
the doctor can preserve the medical history of the couple in detail which
includes high blood pressure, thyroid, diabetes, regular medicine, lifestyle
including food habits, previous history of pregnancy, etc. Most families seem
to be indifferent towards this matter. This indifference endangers the pregnancy.
These diagnoses are very important in order to ensure proper management of
problems and the desired growth of the child.
Routine checkup
with the doctor after conceiving (during the first trimester):
The first 12 weeks after conceiving, known as the First
Trimester, is the period that involves great risks, especially abortion is a
likely incident during this period. Slight mistakes or genetic problems may
cause abortion. A woman at this period has a great likelihood of the following
issues:
- Bleeding
- Chronic blood pressure
- Diabetes
- Asthma
- Issues from previous pregnancy
history
- Birth abnormality
- Multiple gestations
At this period, pregnant women have to get the
follow-ups below:
- If the mother and baby inside
are well
- Observation of the condition of
the embryo
- Natural growth of the embryo and
determination of delivery date on the basis of the last month’s
menstruation
- Keeping records of blood
pressure, weight, level of glucose and protein
- Imparting educative information
to the mother
Many gynecologists determine the date of delivery again
through a second ultrasonography within the first 12 weeks when the mother
usually feels sick, perhaps due to weight loss. If the mother gains weight too
fast, she must arrange for a follow-up visit. This is important because the
mother can get rid of all fears and anxiety with the help of a doctor’s proper
suggestions.
Follow-up visit
during the Second Trimester:
The period between the first 12th week and 24th
week, the Second Trimester, is considered the safest and best period for the
mothers. With likelihood of fear of
abortion, bodily pain and nausea being almost diminished, the mother starts
feeling relaxed.
Things that can go with high risk during this
period include:
- More risks than the First
Trimester
- Likelihood of immature delivery
due to insufficient growth of the uterus
- Bleeding
- Pregnancy diabetes
- High blood pressure
- Lack of care for the pregnant
women
- Uterus infection during
pregnancy
- Kidney infection
At this period, pregnant women have to get the
follow-ups below:
- Observation of the mother’s
health status and proper growth of the embryo
- Keep records of the heartbeat of
the embryo and the growth of the uterus through follow-up visit after
every two weeks.
- Examination of blood pressure,
weight, any excess of blood and the position of the uterus
- Family members being informed of
the pregnant woman’s health and meal plans
- In case of any abnormality in
the position of the uterus after 18 weeks, ultrasonography to determine
the uterus position and movement of the embryo
- Between the 15th and
20th weeks, an AFP test to check if the embryo has any issues
- Determination of any chromosomal
disorder through Amniocentesis if the mother is older than 35 years
The embryo keeps growing in size and the mother feels pain
subsequently with it abated a little while later. Suffocation, faster heartbeat and pains can be experienced as well.
These are normal matters, but the doctor must be consulted if the issues take serious turn.
Follow-up visit
during the Third Trimester:
This is the longest period when the baby inside gains weight
and the mother undergoes physical
abnormality which affects the growth of the baby seriously. Follow-up during
this period is pretty essential in order
to keep the mother free of excitement.
Things that can go with high risk during this
period include:
- More risks than the First and
Second Trimester
- Abnormality of the movement of
the embryo
- Abnormality of ammonic fluid
- High blood pressure
- Likelihood of diabetes during 26th
week
- Faster delivery may be required due
to liver issues
- Problems in the gallbladder that
can be taken care of later
Follow-up from doctors can help pregnant women a lot.
Suggestions are given after every 2-3 weeks.
Required
follow-ups during the last few months of pregnancy:
- Inspection of the uterus a few
weeks before the due date of delivery
- Observation of the baby’s
movement and any labor pain if felt
- Immediate admission of the
pregnant woman into the hospital as the fluid release occurs
- Consulting the gynecologist for
earlier delivery if required
Conclusion:
To stay safe, free of pregnancy complications and tuned with
the thought of the delivery and growth of a healthy baby, you must consult an
experienced gynecologist whose follow-up routine can help you keep well and
deliver safely.
