Outdoor Work During Pregnancy: Precautions to safeguard you and your baby

Mili works in a multinational company. She worked regularly during pregnancy without having any difficulties & gave birth a healthy child. Basically, you can do regular work having any trouble by following few simple rules. A large number of working women can do office during pregnancy. In some cases, several women can continue work upto the very end of their pregnancy period. But continuing work can be challenging. First three months of pregnancy, it’s hard to continue work having any discomfort. Here we will discuss few tips of how any woman can continue day to day work as well as office job with ease & safety.

Feeling Nauseous:

Most of the time nauseous feels early in the morning, that’s why sometimes it calls morning sickness. But nauseous may feel anytime of a day. To relief from nausea, you can do the following:-

  Avoid those foods you don’t like to eat.

  Take biscuits, peanut as a snack and also eat low-fat foods like applesauce, toast rice etc.

  Increase your number of eating food in a day. Eat little amount of food each time & eat 5/6 times in a day instead of 3 times.

  Drink plenty of fresh water.

  Take good rest.

Fatigue:

During pregnancy, you can feel languished than as usual. Basically, it happens more often at the very first & end of pregnancy period. You can do the following to relief from extreme tiredness-

  In working hour, take a short break, walk out for few minutes and if possible get some sleep during lunch break.

  Go for sleeping early at night. A sound sleep at night will give you a proper rest.

  Do exercise when possible. It will help you to have enthusiasm for the whole day.

  Try to eat plenty of liquid food in daytime. But don’t drink too much before sleeping. Otherwise, you may have to go to the toilet at midnight for excessive drinking at night.

  Eat healthy food which contains protein & iron.

  Stay calm & avoid those situations which may rise your temper.

 

Way to be safe in Workplace:

The safe working environment is highly required for both of you and your baby which depends on the type of your work during pregnancy. You should be careful about some risky element during this period.

  Working with metallic material like mercury or led.

  Working in the production of chemical enrich product (Detergent Solution, Insecticide or Gas).

  Working in the production of radioactive waste, radiation or other dangerous product (Cancer curable Drugs or X- Ray).

If you are involved in doing any of those jobs, you must use proper security equipment like- mask, gown and gloves to confirm your safety. You need to consult your doctor as this material may cause miscarriage, birth defects to your baby or other serious problems.

Inform your physician if you need to work in the high heated environment because the excessive temperature will affect your body temperature which is harmful to the unborn.

The possibility of being infected increases for you if you work in a child or health centre. You need to be very careful of getting infected by chicken pox, rubella or flu during pregnancy. If you think that your work environment is risky for your health, you must talk to your employer.

During pregnancy, it is highly insecure to do any work related to physical labor such as- lifting any heavy object. You may feel nausea, exhausted or dizzy in first days of pregnancy for physical labor and it increases the chances to get hurt in last days of pregnancy. So you need to talk to your employer to replace your work. However, if you need to do any physical labor try to follow those tips-

  Your sole and shoulder must be relaxed

  Bend your knee without bending back and keep your back lofty

  Then try to lift the object with your hands but don’t pressurize your back

  Try to lessen the weight by dividing into 2/3 parts.

If you need to work standing for a long time, it may cause a headache, backache, and exhaustion. In that case-

  Keep your feet on a stool by turns.

  Use comfortable shoes

You may suffer from back pain or wrist, hand, shoulder pain if you work on computer or desk job. To get rid of this problem you can take some simple steps like-

  Take a break in between your task and try to walk for a while.

  Try to use your chair, keyboard, and other official equipment comfortably.

  Always keep a pillow to support your back.

  You can use a stool to put your feet little bit high from the floor.

You must consult about your physical condition with an expert before doing such job. Your physician may not allow doing any risky work if you delivered a premature baby earlier, have any miscarriage, suffer from high blood pressure or diabetic or if there any chances of twins.
