Baby Dental Care: A step by step guide

The time of growing up baby's first teeth are very important and taking good care can guarantee beautiful & disease-free teeth for your baby. If you are thinking that the first set of teeth of your baby will fall shortly so they do not need any care, you are totally wrong. Because negligence of this time may affect your baby’s teeth in long run. Not only that, if the first set of tooth fall very soon, it may have difficulties to grow permanent teeth. So you need to be careful about your baby’s tooth care from the very beginning.

First six months: Infants primarily get their first tooth within one year from the date of birth. But generally within the age of 6 months, most infants get their 1st teeth. The process of teeth formation starts when a child is in the mother's womb. Vitamins & minerals which the mother consume through their food plays an important role in the formation of child’s future tooth.

Note That: The gums area may become pale or reddish during growing up the infant’s 1st set of teeth. Also, the area can be swelling. With the growth of the teeth, these facts go disappeared.

To do’s: Keep clean the baby's mouth and gums with a finger or a clean cloth on a regularly. Before new teeth arise, a small hole can be seen around gums in which bacteria can hide.  When the baby’s little teeth start to erupt, use soft clean cloth or soft toothbrush soaked in water to clean the baby's teeth. Do it every day before breakfast & sleep and thus your baby will be used to teeth brushing.

6 months after the baby's first teeth growing, see a dentist. Specially who are a Pediatric doctor and experienced in child’s dental treatment, take their advice.

Seven to twelve months: Within the 1st birthday of your child, your baby may have 8 teeth.

Note That: No matter how many teeth erupt, keep an eye of their position. Which means whether baby teeth are inserted densely or in interval. Consult a doctor about how you should do your child’s dental flossing.

To do’s: If the child cry or feel pain in mouth due to the growth of new teeth, do cleaning the teeth & gums with a finger or clean cloth. Also, painkiller can be used in accordance with the doctor's advice.

Studies show, proper tooth care from year 1 can lessen the possibilities of having caries or decay in future.

Up to eighteen months: If your child doesn’t have any teeth by 18 months of age, consult a doctor rather than being worried. In these cases, doctors usually advice to rub the child’s gums with a finger so that growing up teeth can be easy.

Note That: Children enjoy rubbing their teeth when they have a new set of teeth. To them, it’s like a game. But in many cases, it indicates uncomfortable situation in child's body. He may be tired, or feeling cold or hot or may infect by a cold. Keep an eye on each of these sign.

To do’s: Start using a soft toothbrush for the children. Avoid fluoride toothpaste and help your children to brush their teeth. Despite all, do not forget to consult a dentist.
