How stress affects your ability to conceive

Lifestyle has a significant role in a woman’s pregnancy. Excessive mental stress from day-to-day life or career seriously affects women trying to conceive. Let’s know how stress affects one’s pregnancy.

Absence of romance in spousal relationship:

Too much stress from busy lifestyle, monotonous food habit, smoking and lack of outdoor recreations often affect the romantic understanding between spouses. Gradually, they lose the activeness of their relationship. This seriously affects their sexual relationship as well.

Loss of sexual desires:

Mental stress causes hindrances to conjugal bond, social standing and general peace. All these lead to the loss of sexual desire in men and women. Sometimes, prolonged working hours and uncongenial atmosphere at the workplaces cause people to feel tired and have aversion to sexuality for a long time.

Lack of pleasure in sexual intercourse:

Many spouses complain that they are not having any sexual attraction toward each other for over a year. Even, they do not enjoy talking about it. Excessive mental pressure reduces the pleasure of intercourse, which is the major hindrance to conception.

Irregular menstruation:

Hypothalamus in the brain controls not only the stress hormone but also the sex hormone in women’s reproductive cycle by creating hormone that releases gonadotropin. Due to mental stress, menstruation cycle may become irregular, which is why vaginal infection may occur.

Indiscipline in menstruation and ovulation cycles:

Stress hormone being secreted in excess in many women brings negative effects on their sex hormone and gradually leads to indiscipline in menstruation and ovulation cycles. Ultimately, conception gets complication.

Loss of secretion of sex hormone:

Mental stress contributes to decrease levels of ‘Happy Hormones’ leading to the secretion of prolactin hormone from the pituitary gland, which compels sex hormones to decrease the secretion instead of maintaining being at usual levels. Consequently, sexual need becomes lessened and conception becomes difficult.

Hindrance to the release of eggs:

Controlling the sex hormone, hypothalamus in the brain helps release the eggs from the ovary. Activity of the sex hormone gets offended by mental stress. So, mature eggs face difficulty getting released from ovary, often leading to complicated conception.

Problems in the cervical mucus:

Mental stress may cause irregular release of fluid from cervical mucus causing difficulty to the mature eggs while getting released from the ovary.

Reduction in the levels of progesterone hormone:

Pituitary gland sends signals of releasing Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) and works as a stimulant in creating estrogen, Latinizing Hormone (LH) and progesterone hormone at a certain stage of the menstruation cycle. Due to the stress at its peak or chronic condition, progesterone hormone changes into stress hormone called cortisol which follows the way of biochemical system of sex hormone production. Consequently, levels of progesterone hormone decrease.

Decline of the quality and quantity of male sperm:

Excessive mental pressure causes fatigue in men leading to a decrease in their testosterone hormone. So, the quality and quantity required for fertilization with mature eggs do not come in a sufficient flow.

Conclusion:

A lifestyle free of stress and anxiety is required for hormonal balance, physical improvement and changes in mental situation. It is possible to get rid of stress by eating balanced diet, sleeping well, taking regular exercise and following relaxation technique.
