Caring for your baby's mouth and throat

Your baby may go through various types oral problems due to the absence of proper care. Oral Thrush or Fungal Infection is most common among these problems. It also affects the breastfeeding mother. In some cases, the mother also needs proper treatment with the baby.

Only proper Oral Care of your baby can protect both of you and your baby from those oral problems.

1. Cleanliness for Oral Thrush: Besides medicine, you need to keep clean the feeding bottle, toys and other things which the baby can put in their mouth.

2. Prevent Tooth Decay: Possibility of tooth infection or decay is high for those baby who used to fall asleep while breastfeeding and at the time of their teething. Because during teething, baby tries to bite anything. If you take proper oral care of your baby, they can have even and beautiful teeth.

3. Gum Care: Clean your baby’s gum regularly, specially after feeding them. Gently rub his gums with a clean, soft cloth soaked into water.

4. Use of Toothpaste & Toothbrush: Use gel toothpaste without fluoride and soft bristled brush for your baby. Besides, if your baby is habituated of finger sucking, try to change the habit by different types of motivations. Or they may have jaw problem, high tooth and gaps between teeth.

5. Syphilis: Syphilis is a kind of incurable diseases caused by bacteria and may infect a baby during pregnancy. Medicate the baby according to doctor’s advice immediately.

6. Cut Lips & Palate: A baby can be born with different types of physical problems like Cut Lips & Palate. In these cases, the parent should consult an expert immediately as the baby may have feeding or speaking problem. For cut lips, reconstruction surgery may be needed and speech therapy or prosthetic device can be effective for cut palate before surgery.

7. Child Care According to Season: You should take care of your baby according to the season. Such as, apply light cream and baby powder on the face, neck and body of your baby during summer.  In winter, always put on warm clothes, muffler and monkey hat on your baby to protect them from cold.
