You surely want your child to attain proper intelligence growth. Children’s mental growth and development require extensive scientific explanations. In this article, the subject has been approached with easy-to-understand explanations.

How to enhance a child’s intelligence growth?

Read rhymes and children’s poetry aloud:

Many rhymes, stories, mythological stories are written in Bengali and English for children. Bengali being our mother tongue, you can recite poems before your child. Make him/her listen to stories or rhymes during bedtime, so he/she can sharpen memory and have new words added to his/her stock. The more you do these things with him/her, the faster he/she will learn how to talk and exercise creativity.

Allow for hearing noise or sounds made by animals and objects:

By allowing this, you can help your child understand the difference between the sounds made by different animals. Eventually, he/she will recognize the different sounds of different animals and refer to the animal by hearing its sounds. For example, he/she will recognize and refer to the caws of a crow if he/she is exposed to the sound previously for a few times. In addition, he will also understand how different sounds or noises are related with different things around the atmosphere.

Make the child acquainted with alphabets:

As your child start talking or recognizing different objects, you can make him/her learn alphabets, but of course, you should not force him/her to it in order to help him/her avoid future aversion to studies. For Bengali alphabets ‘Adarsha Lipi’ and for English ‘Active English’ are good books to buy your child. Make sure the learning process is enjoyable rather than boring or stressful.

How to make a child understand the numbers:

Familiarize your child with numbers using your and his/her fingers. For example, teach him to count ‘one bird’, ‘two balls’, etc. In addition, multiplication table is a good thing to use for acquainting him/her with numbers.

Give him/her idea about the color, shape and size of different things:

We see different things with different shapes and colors around us. You can familiarize your baby with things with same color but different sizes or same size with different colors. For example, you can say, “Sweetheart, look at this round shaped ball that is red, and look at the blue one”. By this example, you are teaching him/her while letting him play. With time, the baby will understand that difference between the balls in terms of the shapes and colors.

Allow him/her to take decision about particular matters on his/her own:

As parents, you can always decide upon everything for your children. However, you can encourage him/her to take decision regarding certain matters like wearing clothes, eating foods, etc.

Ask questions and give explanations:

You can ask your baby questions about different actions and things along with the good and bad things about them. For example, you can tell it is not good to climb stairs too fast lest he/she should fall and receive pain. In addition, you may ask short questions about different things.

Take your child to a little visit:

You can sometimes take your baby to museums, libraries and similar places wherein you can let him/her watch everything well. Observe his/her reactions and attentions. These visits will enhance his/her interest in learning.

Associate your baby with household works:

In view of your child’s capability, you can have him/her take part in doing household activities. This practice will help him/her build confidence in problem solving or handling situations.

Let your child play:

Encourage your child to play both indoor and outdoor games like Sudoku, blind man’s bluff, hide and seek, etc. After adequate growth, let the child play cricket, chess and football. Active participation in these games will let him/her learn how to acquire communication skills with other children along with intellectual qualities.

In fine, the above activities are effective enough to foster your child’s intellectual growth. You should make sure you do not compel your baby to do anything that he/she dislikes. By doing so, you will only cause impediment to his/her mental development, a thing you never want as the child’s guardian.
